Miscellaneous Mechanical (November 3, 2010)

This page documents miscellaneous mechanical items from the last few years that didn't fit on other pages. The items documented below includes the clutch linkage, back drive linkage, wiper system, engine dipstick, breather, plug wires and header bolts.

Status photos as of 11/3/2010:

Here is the backdrive linkage. The backdrive linkage links the transmission linkage to the column. This controls the column lock and the reverse lights. I stripped it and cleaned it up. Unfortunately, the headers got in the way of installing the linkage and didn't get installed. I am keeping the linkage in case I need them in the future. I wound up installing a shifter mounted backup light.
Here is the Z-Bar. I rebuilt the factory unit by replacing the ball, and seals and then installed to the frame and block.
Here is the clutch linkage cleaned up and installed.
I also needed to install new u-joints on the driveshaft yoke.
Here is the original wiper motor. I cleaned it and painted it up. Unfortunately, the motor immediately burned out before I had a chance to attach the wiper linkage. I replaced the unit with a rebuilt unit. For the hideaway wipers I used Trico Exact Fit blades part number 18-2. They fit with no problems.
I decided to install a K&N breather in the drivers side valve cover The passenger side valve cover has a PCV valve installed.
I went with Spectre header bolts for my headers. They have a bolt head that allows you to use a regular socket or wrench and also has a fitting for an allen head wrench. Here is the hold down I used to install my distributor. The hold down is the factory unit painted black. The bolts came with my stainless engine kit.
Here is the installation of my Moroso wire looms and my flexible dipstick. I needed to the flexible dipstick to clear the wire loom.
