Brake Hoses and Parking Brake Lever (March 30, 2010)

This page documents the completion of the brake system. This included replacing all the rubber lines with braided stainless steel lines. I first used Russell stainless braided rear lines intended for a 98+ Camaros. I was able to install the right line with no problem, but the left one stripped when trying to install it. I called up Russell hoping to be able to purchase a single replacement, but my kit was discontinued and they never called me back. Unhappy with Russell, I went to Kore3.com for my other left rear line. I also used Kore3 for the center rear line and for my front C5 lines. Also documented on this page is the installation of my parking brake lines and handle. The lines and handle are from a 2000 Camaro and match my rear calipers. The handle will be mounted on the center hump in a console from a 96 Camaro.

Lastly, I had to deal with clearance issues and leaking from the connections on my Prop Block. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the rear brake line to seal without leaking. Also, the lower front output of my Prop Block had clearance issues once I installed my inner fender wells. The solution was to use banjo fittings on the two outputs. These worked great and solved both issues.

Status photos as of 3/30/2010:

Here is the parking brake handle mounted in place. I welded the base to the center tunnel. The handle is mounted under the console. This console is from a 96 Camaro and will take a little work to fit perfectly.
The next step was to cut a hole in the floor for the front half of parking brake cable and to install the front cable.
I then needed to install the brackets under the car to mount the front and rear parking brake cables. I used a piece of 1/8 inch steel for the front cable mount with a hole and a slit in the mount. For the back cables, I cut up the original 2000 Camaro brackets and welded them to the underside of the tunnel.
Here is what the banjo fitting looks like that I used for the rear and lower front fittings. These solved my leaking and clearance issues. I did the rear fitting first.
Here is me installing the lower front banjo fitting to solve my clearance problem with the fender well.
Here are the Russell rear lines for 98+ Camaros. I wound up using the right one and stripped the left one.
Here is the installation of the rear center hose. This is a Kore3 hose based on the 73 Camaro line.
Here is the installation of the Kore3 front lines. These are standard C5 replacement lines.
