Interior Back Half Floor Repair (November 14, 2004)

Here are pictures of the floor repairs and restoration of the back half of the floor. This process involved welding patch panels into areas under the back seat and the area near the inner rocker panels. It was necessary to back good patches in the area that would be exposed under the car for a clean restoration. I wasn't overly concerned about how these repairs would look on the inside. I wanted them to be clean, but they didn't have to look perfect, because they would never be seen once the Dynamat and carpet are laid down. After the welding was done, I stripped the old primer and rust off of all the back half of the interior. I then put two coats of red oxide Zero Rust. This may be the last update for a few months, because winter is approaching and it is cold in the garage. The next area to be worked on is the underside of the floor and the rear inner valance.

Here are shots of the area under the back seat welded on the left side. These still need to be ground down smooth.
Here are shots of the area under the back seat welded and ground semi-smooth on the right side.
Here is a shot of the rust removed from the floor near the inner rocker panel on the right side. The left side looked similar.
Here is the floor near the inner rocker panel on the right side welded up. The weld isn't the cleanest job, but it is strong and looks good from the outside. It will be ground smooth before painting with Zero Rust

Here are the floor sections near the inner rocker panel after a little cleaning up with the grinder on the oustide. As you can see, the repair is nearly invisible from the outside.
Here is a shot of the area behind the left hand back seats from the outside. This will look nearly perfect once it is stripped and coated with Zero Rust.
Here is the back floor area all welded up. Next comes a complete stripping of remaining primer and rust.

The following shots are the back half of the car coated with Zero Rust. This really cleaned everything up. The inside looks like it just rolled of the assembly line.
